Construction of New Banda Bou–Bullenbaai Road to Officially Begin November 13

Local, | By Correspondent November 6, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The government of Curaçao will officially launch construction of the long-awaited alternative road connecting Banda Bou to Bullenbaai during a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for Friday, November 13, 2026.

The Public Works Department (OW) and contractor MNO Vervat, has invited the public, particularly residents of Banda Bou, to attend the ceremony marking the start of the infrastructure project.

The new road

The new road will establish a connection between Weg naar St. Willibrordus and Bullenbaai, creating an alternative route for motorists traveling between the western part of Curaçao and the Bullenbaai area.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at the entrance to the Kòt road along Weg naar St. Willibrordus, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Two Contractors to Build Road From Opposite Ends

According to the government, construction will be carried out through a collaboration between contractors CWM and MNO.

The two companies will begin work simultaneously from opposite ends of the planned connection.

MNO will start construction from Weg naar St. Willibrordus, while CWM will begin its activities from the Bullenbaai side.

Both contractors will work toward each other until their respective sections meet, completing the new road connection.

This approach will allow construction activities to proceed from both directions as the project advances.

The government has not yet announced the total construction cost, the length of the new road, or the expected completion date.

Alternative Connection for Banda Bou

The planned road will provide an additional connection between Banda Bou and Bullenbaai, expanding the existing road infrastructure serving the western part of the island.

The project is particularly relevant to residents of Banda Bou, who depend on the region's road network for access to other parts of Curaçao.

An additional connection could offer motorists more route options and improve accessibility between communities and important locations in the western part of the island.

The project also represents another infrastructure development involving the Public Works Department and private construction companies.

Public Invited to Groundbreaking Ceremony

Minister Charles Cooper and the organizations involved are encouraging residents to participate in the official groundbreaking ceremony.

The event will take place on Friday, November 13, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the entrance to the Kòt road along Weg naar St. Willibrordus.

The invitation is extended to the entire population of Curaçao, with particular emphasis on the communities of Banda Bou.

The ceremony will mark the formal beginning of construction of the alternative route between Weg naar St. Willibrordus and Bullenbaai, with MNO and CWM responsible for completing the connection from opposite directions.
