Code Yellow issued as rough seas threaten Curaçao’s north and east coasts

Local, | By Correspondent May 5, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao’s Meteorological Service has issued a Code Yellow weather alert as rough sea conditions are expected to impact parts of the island, with authorities warning of possible coastal flooding and damage to beach facilities.

The precautionary alert was issued around 2:30 p.m. and applies specifically to Curaçao’s northern and eastern coastlines.

According to the Meteorological Service Curaçao, strong winds are expected to generate dangerous sea conditions between 4:00 p.m. today and 8:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters warn that some low-lying coastal areas could experience seawater intrusion, while beach infrastructure and facilities may be at risk of damage from strong wave action and rough surf.

The weather service says the situation requires caution, particularly for people active at sea.

Owners of small vessels are being urged to take precautionary measures and navigate carefully, as sea conditions could deteriorate rapidly.

Swimmers are also being advised not to venture far from shore due to the increased risk of strong currents and high waves.

Code Yellow is issued when weather or sea conditions pose a potential threat and the public is encouraged to remain alert and monitor official updates.

Authorities are expected to continue monitoring the coastal conditions overnight and may issue further advisories if the weather system intensifies.
