WILLEMSTAD – The Caribbean Coast Guard intercepted a local vessel carrying narcotics during a maritime inspection on Sunday afternoon, March 29, leading to the arrest of two men.
According to authorities, a patrol unit operating a Metal Shark vessel approached the boat at sea for a routine inspection as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen maritime security. Following the initial check, the decision was made to escort the vessel to the Coast Guard support base in Parera for further investigation.
During a joint inspection with Customs officials, several packages containing illegal drugs were discovered on board.
The two local men present on the vessel were arrested and handed over to the Curaçao Police Force for further investigation. The seized narcotics have since been destroyed.
Authorities emphasized that the operation forms part of broader efforts to combat drug trafficking and enhance security in Curaçao’s territorial waters.
