WILLEMSTAD – A tourist who became lost while hiking in the San Pedro area near Tera Kora was rescued on Friday after becoming stranded on a steep and difficult-to-reach cliff.

According to the Caribbean Coast Guard, the Maritime Operations Center received a report through the Curaçao Police Force regarding a missing tourist who had gone hiking in the area and was unable to find his way back.

Police officers immediately responded to the incident and located the man. However, due to his position on a high cliff that was inaccessible by land, additional assistance was required. The police subsequently requested support from the Coast Guard.

A Coast Guard helicopter was deployed to carry out the rescue operation. Rescue personnel successfully hoisted the stranded hiker from the cliff and transported him to Hato.

Authorities reported that the tourist had sustained several injuries during his ordeal and was also showing signs of dehydration.

Upon arrival at Hato, he was transferred to ambulance personnel for further medical evaluation and treatment.

The Coast Guard did not release the identity or nationality of the tourist. The incident serves as a reminder for hikers to take adequate precautions when exploring remote areas of the island, particularly in rugged terrain where access can be challenging.
