WILLEMSTAD – The Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard carried out a medical evacuation from a passenger ship north of Aruba after receiving an urgent request for assistance.

The Coast Guard received a report yesterday afternoon concerning a 40-year-old woman aboard a passenger vessel who required immediate medical attention and transport to a hospital.

The vessel was located within the Coast Guard’s maritime responsibility area north of Aruba. Following the alert, the Coast Guard Maritime Operations Center directed the Coast Guard helicopter to the ship to evacuate the passenger.

After the woman was safely transported by helicopter, she was flown to Aruba Airport, where an ambulance was waiting to take her to a hospital for further medical treatment.

The Coast Guard regularly carries out medical evacuations at sea as part of its responsibility for maritime safety and emergency assistance in the Dutch Caribbean region.
