WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has temporarily postponed all elective endoscopy procedures due to technical problems affecting some of the equipment used during the examinations.
The hospital emphasized that urgent endoscopy procedures will continue as scheduled, including those related to cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as critical pulmonary procedures.
CMC said it is contacting all affected patients directly to inform them about the postponements and any necessary rescheduling.
The affected procedures include examinations that use an endoscope to examine the throat, stomach, intestines and lungs.
According to the hospital, the technical issues do not affect regular surgeries or other procedures performed in CMC's operating rooms, which use separate equipment and protocols.
Additional investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the equipment malfunction and to ensure the systems can be safely returned to service.
CMC said it is working closely with the equipment supplier and safety specialists to restore its full endoscopy capacity as quickly as possible.
The hospital apologized for the inconvenience caused to patients and thanked them for their understanding while the necessary safety measures and technical investigations are being completed.
