WILLEMSTAD – The 30-year-old man who died following a stabbing incident in Sorsaka on Monday has been identified as Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) nurse Rachied Paulina. The hospital is mourning the loss of a dedicated emergency room employee remembered for his calm demeanor, humor and commitment to patients and colleagues.
Paulina, known among colleagues as “Chito,” was found at an apartment complex in Klein Zuurzak. According to police information, he suffered a fatal wound to the neck and died at the scene.
The case is being investigated as a suspicious death. Investigators are examining evidence and security camera footage in an effort to determine exactly what happened.
Shortly before Paulina was found, a vehicle reportedly left the property at high speed. The car was later located damaged in Montaña Abou and seized as part of the investigation. No arrest has yet been announced.
Paulina worked as a nurse in the Emergency Department at CMC, where his unexpected death has deeply affected employees.
In a memorial message, the hospital described Paulina as cheerful, humorous and calm, saying his professionalism and caring approach left a lasting impression on both patients and colleagues.
CMC said Paulina was there for patients during moments when they needed not only medical attention but also reassurance. He extended that same care and consideration to the people with whom he worked.
His absence, the hospital said, is already being felt in the Emergency Department, not only in the work he performed but also in the everyday interactions and small moments shared with colleagues.
Police have not yet publicly disclosed a possible motive for the killing or the circumstances leading up to the fatal incident.
