WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has become the first hospital in Curaçao to implement SignalFlow, a new platform developed by Report App that aims to strengthen social and psychological safety in the workplace through a preventive approach.
According to the hospital, the platform is designed to help employees identify and discuss concerns, tensions, and uncomfortable situations before they escalate into larger workplace issues.
Unlike traditional reporting systems that are often used after incidents have occurred, SignalFlow focuses on early detection and dialogue. Through tools such as surveys, pulse checks, knowledge-sharing modules, and a digital knowledge base, the platform seeks to identify emerging risks and workplace concerns at an early stage.
CMC Chief Executive Officer Johan de Graaf said the hospital deliberately chose a preventive strategy to support a healthy organizational culture.
“With SignalFlow, we are choosing to listen earlier and act earlier. Rather than waiting for problems to escalate, we want to take signals seriously and use them to strengthen our workplace culture,” De Graaf said.
The application was developed by Report App. Founder Karin Bosman explained that the platform is intended to encourage employees to start conversations sooner rather than waiting until problems become formal complaints.
“You usually report something when it is already late, often too late,” Bosman said. “We focus on creating conversations when people begin to feel uncomfortable or notice that things are starting to go wrong.”
According to Bosman, the platform enables organizations to keep a continuous pulse on employee well-being through regular surveys and feedback mechanisms, helping management identify patterns and concerns before they develop into more serious issues.
The system also includes pathways for addressing serious integrity violations. In cases involving misconduct or ethical concerns, employees can access confidential support through designated confidential advisers, whistleblower procedures, or ombudsman services. Bosman emphasized, however, that these reporting functions are not the primary focus of the platform.
CMC believes that employee well-being and workplace safety are directly linked to the quality of patient care and the retention of healthcare professionals.
Hospital management noted that maintaining a positive and supportive work environment is becoming increasingly important at a time when healthcare institutions worldwide face challenges related to staffing shortages, employee burnout, and workforce retention.
As a result, SignalFlow will become part of CMC's broader policies related to quality assurance, safety, employee welfare, and organizational culture.
By adopting the platform, CMC hopes to create a workplace environment where concerns can be addressed proactively, communication is encouraged, and employees feel supported in raising issues before they affect both staff well-being and patient care.
