WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Maritime Association has joined the international observance of the Day of the Seafarer, recognizing the vital role maritime workers play in keeping global trade moving while drawing attention to the risks they face.
This year's campaign, organized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), carried the theme "Carrying world trade. Carrying the risks." The initiative highlights the demanding and often dangerous conditions experienced by seafarers, whose work remains largely unseen despite being essential to international commerce.
According to CMAR, the campaign seeks not only to recognize the contribution of seafarers but also to acknowledge the sacrifices and challenges they encounter while transporting goods across the world's oceans.
Leading up to June 25, the IMO shared personal testimonies from seafarers around the globe, offering insight into the realities of life at sea and emphasizing the importance of improving awareness of their working conditions.
