BOGOTÁ – China has sent nearly 80 tons of humanitarian assistance to Colombia to support families affected by the powerful earthquake that recently struck the country.
Chinese Ambassador to Colombia Zhu Jingyang announced that the shipment contains emergency supplies intended to assist communities dealing with the consequences of the natural disaster.
The humanitarian cargo includes 1,900 tents, 700 blankets, 15 water purification units, 200 solar-powered lamps and 20 diesel generators.
The equipment is intended to provide temporary shelter, access to clean water, electricity and other essential support to families in the areas most affected by the earthquake.
According to the information released by the Chinese diplomatic mission, the assistance is aimed at strengthening ongoing relief efforts and helping Colombian authorities respond to the immediate needs of affected communities.
Water purification units and generators can be particularly important following major earthquakes, when damage to electricity and water infrastructure can leave communities without basic services.
The Chinese contribution supplements Colombia’s own emergency response and recovery efforts as authorities continue assisting families affected by the disaster and assessing damage in the hardest-hit areas.
The shipment represents another instance of international assistance being mobilized as Colombia works to address the humanitarian consequences of the earthquake and advance recovery efforts.
