Child abuse prevention highlighted during visit to Governor

WILLEMSTAD – Efforts to combat child abuse were a central focus during a recent working visit to the Governor of Curaçao by the organization Kiko i e Man and a delegation from the Cabinet of the Ministry of Justice and Legal Care.

During the meeting, held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, the delegation briefed Governor Lucille George-Wout on initiatives carried out over the past two years to raise awareness and prevent child abuse on the island.

Special attention was given to recent developments surrounding the treaty aimed at protecting children from sexual abuse, which has now been formally adopted. The Ministry of Justice emphasized the importance of education and early detection, highlighting programs designed to inform children about their rights and personal safety in an accessible way.

Kiko i e Man also outlined its ongoing role in community outreach and awareness campaigns, aimed at strengthening prevention and encouraging reporting of abuse.

The Governor expressed appreciation for the organization’s work and reaffirmed the importance of continued commitment to safeguarding children in Curaçao.
