WILLEMSTAD – The Board of Financial Supervision (Cft) has raised new concerns about progress toward resolving the financial problems surrounding Curaçao Medical Center, saying the government has provided little additional information and that its stated timetable appears difficult to achieve.
The Cft said Curaçao’s second implementation report contains no substantial new information on several major financial dossiers, including CMC.
According to the report, the government states that it expects the CMC solution to be at least partly processed administratively “before the end of 2025.”
The Cft questioned that timetable, pointing to limited results during 2026 and the absence of additional information about progress and outcomes.
It therefore considers the planning difficult to achieve.
The reference to “before the end of 2025” appears in Curaçao’s own second implementation report as quoted by the Cft, despite the fact that the reporting period is already in 2026. The Cft reproduces that wording in quotation marks.
CMC has also been one of the reasons the Cft has repeatedly requested a formal amendment to the 2026 budget.
The financial supervisor previously asked the government to incorporate its recommendations concerning both the CMC solution and financing of the higher AOV pension into the budget amendment. That amendment has still not been submitted.
The Cft is seeking greater clarity not only about the eventual solution but also about its financial consequences for the government budget.
