Cft: Curaçao’s 2026 Budget Meets Formal Rules but Remains Incomplete

Local, | By Correspondent February 16, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao’s budget for 2026 formally complies with the fiscal rules of the Kingdom, but remains incomplete and vulnerable due to unresolved policy decisions, according to the College financieel toezicht Curaçao and Sint Maarten (Cft).

In its advice to Minister of Finance Charles Cooper, the Cft states that Curaçao has budgeted a surplus of 19 million guilders on the ordinary service for 2026. This means the country meets the central budget norm under the Rijkswet financieel toezicht. The multi-year outlook for 2027 through 2029 also shows projected surpluses.

The watchdog notes an improvement in the quality of the budget, citing more detailed explanations and stronger numerical substantiation compared to previous years. However, the Cft warns that key policy decisions have not yet been financially incorporated, making the budget fragile despite its formal compliance.
