WILLEMSTAD – The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS) says it is aware of a video circulating on social media showing a 100 Caribbean guilder banknote with an unusual color.
According to the central bank, neither the CBCS nor the police have yet obtained the banknote shown in the video. As a result, the authenticity of the bill has not been confirmed.
The CBCS is advising the public to check the security features of banknotes if there is any doubt about their authenticity. Information on the security features of the Caribbean guilder can be found on the official website of the currency and through the mobile app “My Caribbean Guilder.”
The central bank is also asking the individual who possesses the banknote shown in the video, or anyone who may have a similar note, to contact the bank and present the bill for examination. Only after a technical analysis can it be determined whether the banknote is genuine.
The CBCS said it will continue monitoring the situation and will provide additional information if necessary.
