WILLEMSTAD – The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) will begin fieldwork for its 2026 Social Survey on September 26, with interviewers visiting a selected group of households across Curaçao to collect information on employment, housing, health and emergency preparedness.
The survey is intended to provide a clearer picture of the social situation and living conditions of Curaçao’s population. According to CBS, the findings will provide statistical information that can be used for research, planning, policy development and decision-making.
The 2026 survey will focus on four main areas.
Questions about employment will examine who is working, who is looking for work, income and working conditions, providing CBS with information about developments in the labor market.
The housing section will look at living conditions, whether homes are considered adequate and accessible, and whether households can afford their housing expenses.
Health questions will cover physical health, medical care, prevention, physical activity, nutrition, stress and social support.
A fourth section will examine how prepared Curaçao residents are for emergencies or crisis situations.
CBS will not visit every household on the island. Instead, the agency has selected a sample of addresses intended to provide a representative picture of Curaçao’s population.
Every household selected to participate will receive a letter from CBS in advance explaining the survey.
During the fieldwork period, official CBS interviewers will visit the selected addresses. Interviewers will carry official CBS identification.
Residents who have doubts about whether someone at their door is an authorized CBS interviewer can contact the statistics agency at 724-1802 to verify the person's identity.
CBS emphasized that all information collected during the survey will be treated as strictly confidential and used exclusively for statistical purposes. Results will be published in a way that prevents individual respondents or households from being identified.
The agency is encouraging selected households to participate, stressing that a high response rate is important to produce reliable and representative statistics.
The resulting data should provide policymakers and researchers with updated information about several issues currently affecting Curaçao, ranging from employment and housing affordability to public health and the population's ability to cope with emergencies.
