'S-HERTOGENBOSCH – Fire service commanders from Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and the Caribbean Netherlands have met with representatives of the Dutch fire service in 's-Hertogenbosch to strengthen cooperation, improve professional standards, and establish joint priorities for 2027.

The meeting, held as part of the CASBES Fire Chiefs Consultation and announced on October 27, 2026, brought together representatives from the fire departments of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba, alongside their counterparts from the European Netherlands.

Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the different fire services, improving professional development, and identifying common challenges that require coordinated action.

Among the main subjects addressed were the quality of firefighter training, the qualifications and capabilities of instructors and examiners, fire prevention, emergency response, and personnel development.

The commanders also examined opportunities to modernize fire service education and training, ensuring that firefighters are better prepared to respond to increasingly complex emergencies.

Another important subject was the implementation of agreements reached during the Judicial Four-Party Consultation (JVO), held in Curaçao in September 2026.

The fire chiefs discussed how these agreements could be translated into practical measures to improve cooperation and operational readiness across the participating territories.

Joint Action Plan for 2027

During the final quarter of 2026, the participating fire services will concentrate on identifying their priorities and further developing outstanding action points within their respective areas of responsibility.

The organizations will jointly evaluate progress, determine how responsibilities should be distributed, and establish a concrete planning framework for 2027.

The coming year's priorities will include continued professional development, knowledge sharing, stronger operational cooperation, and the implementation of joint initiatives that respond to the specific needs of the participating fire departments.

Although the fire services operate in different territories, cooperation allows them to exchange expertise, share experiences, and develop common approaches to training, fire safety, and emergency response.

The commanders emphasized the importance of maintaining this cooperation to strengthen the capabilities of their respective organizations.

Next Meeting Scheduled for Bonaire

The fire chiefs are scheduled to meet again in December 2026, this time on Bonaire.

During that meeting, they will further develop the joint action plan, review progress on ongoing projects, and discuss additional matters requiring attention.

The December consultation will also provide an opportunity to coordinate annual plans, finalize priorities, and explore possible new initiatives for 2027.

The participating organizations remain committed to developing strong, professional, and future-ready fire services across the Dutch Caribbean and the Netherlands.

Through continued cooperation, knowledge exchange, and mutual support, the fire departments aim to strengthen their ability to protect communities and respond effectively to emergencies throughout the Kingdom.
