Canadian Tourism to Curaçao Jumps 22 Percent as North American Market Strengthens

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao is seeing accelerating growth from the Canadian tourism market, with visitor arrivals from Canada rising by 22 percent in April 2026 compared to the same month last year, according to new figures released by the Curaçao Tourist Board.

The island welcomed 4,754 Canadian stayover visitors during the month, continuing a broader trend of expanding North American tourism demand for Curaçao.

Canadian visitors represented approximately 6 percent of all stayover arrivals in April.

Tourism officials described the Canadian market as stable, consistent, and increasingly important within Curaçao’s international tourism strategy.

According to the figures, Canadian visitors stayed an average of 7.3 nights on the island, while nearly half selected resort hotels during their stay.

The continued growth from Canada comes as Curaçao strengthens its position within the highly competitive Caribbean tourism market, where destinations are increasingly targeting travelers from the United States and Canada.

North America Becoming Increasingly Important for Curaçao

The latest numbers show that North America now plays a central role in Curaçao’s tourism industry.

Combined arrivals from the United States and Canada reached more than 25,000 visitors in April alone, representing roughly one-third of all stayover arrivals to the island during the month.

The U.S. market grew by 14 percent, while Canada posted even stronger percentage growth.

Tourism analysts say several factors are contributing to the expansion, including increased air connectivity, growing recognition of Curaçao as a safe and stable Caribbean destination, and changing travel preferences among North American tourists seeking alternatives to more crowded tourism markets.

Curaçao has also benefited from strong branding around beaches, diving, culinary experiences, culture, and year-round warm weather.

Longer Visitor Stays Continue Supporting Economy

One of the most important indicators for the tourism sector remains the length of stay.

According to CTB, visitors to Curaçao stayed an average of 7.9 nights during April 2026.

Officials emphasized that longer stays create broader economic impact because tourists spend more across multiple sectors during their visit.

Restaurants, transportation companies, tour operators, shops, accommodations, and entertainment businesses all benefit from visitors remaining on the island for extended periods.

Tourism authorities noted that achieving sustainable long-term growth remains a priority.

As Curaçao continues attracting larger numbers of visitors, policymakers and tourism stakeholders increasingly face the challenge of balancing tourism expansion with infrastructure capacity, environmental protection, and preservation of the island’s character and quality of life.

The strong April figures conclude what CTB described as a successful winter high season for Curaçao’s tourism industry.
