Cabinet-Pisas III Targets Rising School Violence With Coordinated Prevention Plan

| By Correspondent February 23, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Cabinet-Pisas III plans to intensify efforts to address the rise in violent incidents on and around schools, according to the new government program presented this week.

Under the proposed approach, the Ministry of Justice will work closely with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW) to improve early detection of violence-related signals and strengthen preventive measures. The goal is to identify risks at an earlier stage and intervene before situations escalate.

In more serious cases, the government intends to intensify cooperation with the police and youth probation services. This integrated approach is aimed not only at addressing individual incidents, but also at preventing repeat offenses and providing better guidance and support to young people involved in violent behavior.

The cabinet also emphasizes the protection of children’s rights, aligning its policy with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Special attention will be given to safeguarding minors’ privacy, ensuring their protection, and strengthening their right to participation in decisions that affect them.

In addition, the Ministry of Justice is working on the implementation of the Lanzarote Convention, which focuses on combating sexual exploitation and abuse of children. The cabinet views this step as essential to reinforcing the legal protection of minors within the Kingdom.

With these combined measures, Cabinet-Pisas III says it aims to create a safer school environment and strengthen the legal and social position of young people on Curaçao.
