Local, Politics, | By Correspondent June 5, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Council of Ministers has approved instructions to Curaçao's Minister Plenipotentiary regarding diplomatic appointments in the Western Hemisphere, underscoring the island's role within Kingdom foreign affairs.

According to decisions adopted during the June 3 Cabinet meeting, ministers endorsed an earlier Council decision dated May 29 concerning consent for diplomatic appointments in countries throughout the Western Hemisphere.

The decision involves instructions to Curaçao's Minister Plenipotentiary in the Kingdom Council of Ministers, where foreign affairs are handled as a Kingdom responsibility.

While the names of the diplomats involved were not disclosed, the decision highlights Curaçao's participation in Kingdom-level discussions on international representation.

Under the Charter of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, foreign affairs remain a Kingdom matter. However, Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten are consulted on diplomatic appointments and international policies that may affect their interests.

The approval demonstrates the continuing involvement of Curaçao in shaping Kingdom diplomacy and ensuring that Caribbean interests are represented within broader international relations.

The decision comes at a time when Curaçao is actively seeking to strengthen economic, trade, and diplomatic ties throughout the Caribbean and the wider Americas through initiatives involving tourism, investment, and regional cooperation.
