Burglars Steal Six Air Conditioners From School One Day Before New Academic Year

Local, Police, | By Correspondent August 20, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Burglars targeted Angela Jessurun Simon public school in Montaña Abou just one day before the start of the new school year, stealing at least six air-conditioning units and a water cooler while also causing damage to the building, according to Extra.

The burglary comes at a particularly difficult time for the school, as teachers and staff are preparing to welcome students back following the summer vacation.

The loss of six air-conditioning units means the school must begin the academic year with fewer functioning cooling systems during a period of high temperatures in Curaçao.

The stolen water cooler also creates an additional challenge, particularly as keeping students adequately hydrated is important during the current hot conditions.

In addition to replacing the stolen equipment, the school will have to deal with damage caused to the building during the break-in. The total financial impact of the burglary is not yet known.

It is unclear who was responsible for the theft. No information has been released indicating whether police have identified any suspects in connection with the case.

The burglary adds an unexpected setback for the school immediately before students and teachers return to classrooms for the new academic year.
