WILLEMSTAD – Stichting Birgen di Rosario has announced plans to construct 70 senior apartments along the Weg naar Welgelegen in Habaai, aimed at meeting the growing demand for suitable housing for older residents.
In a press release, the foundation stated that the project is designed for independently living residents aged 60 and older. According to the organization, long waiting lists, the availability of centrally located land and the island’s aging population were key factors behind the initiative.
The development will consist of 50 two-bedroom apartments and 20 one-bedroom units. Monthly rent has been set at 2,500 guilders for a one-bedroom apartment and 3,000 guilders for a two-bedroom apartment.
Earlier this month, information sessions were held at the Aula Theater in Habaai, where approximately 100 interested individuals attended to learn more about the plans. The foundation described the turnout as strong and indicative of significant interest in senior housing options.
Construction is scheduled to begin in July and is expected to take approximately two years to complete. Additional information sessions will be organized in the coming months to provide further updates and answer questions from prospective residents.
The project comes amid broader discussions about housing and demographic trends on the island, as Curaçao faces a steadily increasing proportion of residents aged 65 and older.
