WILLEMSTAD – As excitement continues to build ahead of Curaçao’s historic participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Urban Planning Service (ROP) is encouraging residents and businesses to show their support for the Blue Wave in a safe and orderly manner.
In a public notice, ROP reminded the community that existing regulations remain in force regarding the placement of temporary decorations, banners, flags, and promotional materials. The guidelines are intended to safeguard public safety while maintaining an organized environment across the island.
According to ROP, temporary promotional materials may be displayed no earlier than 14 days before an event and must be removed within 24 hours after the event has ended.
The maximum permitted size for temporary banners and flags is two square meters. In addition, all promotional materials must be placed at least four meters away from public roads.
Authorities emphasized that decorations and promotional materials may not be attached to traffic signs, streetlight poles, intersections, roundabouts, or median strips. They must also not obstruct traffic signs or reduce visibility for motorists and pedestrians.
ROP further noted that banners, flags, and advertisements may not be placed on trees, plants, or other elements of public green spaces.
The agency stressed the importance of ensuring that all decorations are securely installed, particularly during periods of strong winds. Improperly secured materials can become detached and pose risks to drivers, pedestrians, and both public and private property.
ROP warned that the Project Team for Supervision and Enforcement will immediately remove any materials that violate the regulations or present a danger to public safety.
Residents and organizations seeking additional information or wishing to submit a request can contact ROP via email at info.rop@gobiernu.cw or by telephone at +5999 511-3874 or +5999 512-1219.
As Curaçao prepares to support the Blue Wave on football’s biggest stage, authorities are calling on the public to celebrate responsibly and help keep the island safe, clean, and attractive for everyone.
“Let us enjoy the patriotic and festive atmosphere in a responsible and safe manner and work together to contribute to a more beautiful, cleaner, and safer Curaçao,” ROP stated.
