Local, | By Press release March 24, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Project Team for Supervision and Enforcement (PTH), in collaboration with the Rio Canario neighborhood police, carried out traffic controls on Monday, March 23, at Winston Churchillweg and Weg naar Westpunt near Wechi, resulting in dozens of fines.

During the operation, a total of 55 vehicles transporting goods were inspected. Authorities issued 32 fines to drivers for transporting materials without proper covering.

Under public order regulations, it is prohibited to transport materials such as construction debris, sand, soil, gravel, manure, yard waste, or other loose substances on public roads in a manner that could cause them to fall or be blown off the vehicle. Loads must be properly secured or covered to prevent hazards to other road users.

In addition to the violations related to uncovered cargo, police issued 56 additional fines for other infractions, including driving without a valid license, lacking insurance, missing license plates, or not having a valid inspection card.

Four cargo vehicles were escorted by police to the Department of Public Works for further handling.

Authorities emphasized that such controls are essential to maintaining road safety and preventing debris and nuisance on public roads. PTH is urging all drivers to ensure that their loads are properly secured before entering traffic.

The enforcement team indicated that similar inspections will continue in the future.
