WILLEMSTAD – The athletics track at Ergilio Hato Stadium, located at Sentro Deportivo Kòrsou (SDK), will be replaced in 2026. The decision follows ongoing concerns and criticism regarding the deteriorated condition of the current track, according to information released by the government.
At the end of December, an initial consultation took place involving the Curaçao Athletics Federation (CAB), Fundashon Desaroyo Deportivo Kòrsou (FDDK) and the government’s Culture and Sports sector. During that meeting, technical aspects were discussed and key decisions were prepared to move forward with the installation of a new athletics track.
Funding for the replacement has been allocated in the 2026 national budget, ensuring that the costs of the project are covered. Preparatory work for the project has already begun.
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (ESKD) is expected to announce the official start date of the construction works in the near future.
The replacement of the track is seen as an important step for local athletics, as the current surface has raised concerns among athletes and sports organizations about safety and training conditions.
