WILLEMSTAD – All road paving work currently planned by Curaçao’s Public Works Department (OW) has been temporarily suspended due to unforeseen problems with asphalt production, the government announced Tuesday.
The interruption affects road improvement projects scheduled for the week of August 24 through 28. According to Public Works, paving activities will resume as soon as asphalt production becomes available again.
Other infrastructure projects that do not depend entirely on asphalt production are continuing.
Work involving the installation and repair of sewer pipes is proceeding along Koraalspechtweg, Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and Goetoeweg. These projects also include paving work, although the asphalt portion will depend on the resumption of production.
At Waaigat, crews are continuing improvements to the public area, including the installation of benches and repainting of parking spaces. The work is part of an effort to improve the appearance and organization of the area.
Public Works is also continuing sidewalk repairs and other improvements along Santa Rosaweg.
The various infrastructure projects are being coordinated by the Public Works Department under the responsibility of Minister of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning Charles Cooper.
The government did not indicate what specifically caused the unexpected asphalt production problem or provide a date for the resumption of paving activities.
Motorists are being asked to drive cautiously around the different work zones while infrastructure improvements continue.
