Aruba Forum Sets New Direction for EU-Caribbean Cooperation

Caribbean, The Netherlands, | By Correspondent June 12, 2026

BRUSSELS – A major meeting held in Aruba earlier this year has established the framework for future cooperation between the European Union and the Overseas Countries and Territories, including Curaçao.

The Overseas Countries and Territories Forum, held in Aruba from April 9 to 14, 2026, brought together representatives of the territories, EU institutions and member states to discuss priorities for the next funding period.

During the forum, participants signed a Joint Declaration outlining eleven strategic priorities for cooperation between 2028 and 2034.

Although the territories share many common challenges, representatives emphasized the importance of recognizing the unique circumstances of each island.

The forum's conclusions are expected to influence future EU funding decisions and project development throughout the Caribbean.

For Curaçao, the discussions could shape access to hundreds of millions of euros in potential investments over the coming decade.
