WILLEMSTAD – Approximately 700 air-conditioning units have been installed in schools across Curaçao as part of the government’s efforts to improve conditions for students and teachers, according to Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Sithree van Heydoorn.
Van Heydoorn said that around 40 percent of Curaçao’s schools have now been provided with air conditioning through government efforts.
The installation of air-conditioning units has become increasingly important as schools contend with Curaçao’s hot climate and high classroom temperatures. Excessive heat can make conditions uncomfortable for both students and teachers and can affect the learning environment.
According to the minister, the approximately 700 units currently installed represent progress in the government’s effort to equip schools with cooling systems. However, with around 40 percent of schools covered, the figures also indicate that a majority of schools have yet to benefit from the program.
The information did not specify how many classrooms are currently equipped with air conditioning, how many schools still require installations, or when the government expects the remaining schools to be addressed.
The condition of Curaçao’s school buildings has been a recurring issue in recent years, with the government facing pressure to address aging infrastructure and improve the physical environment in which students and teachers spend their school days.
