Local, Police, | By Correspondent May 19, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao recorded another decline in armed robberies during 2025, but the number of deaths linked to homicide cases increased compared to the previous year. That is according to the 2025 State of Law Enforcement report.

The report shows that armed robberies, locally known as atrako’s, fell by 11 percent compared to 2024.

Statistics included in the report show that Curaçao registered 118 armed robberies in 2025, down from 133 the year before. The figures represent a major decline compared to 2021, when the island recorded 386 armed robberies.

At the same time, the number of deaths linked to homicide and manslaughter cases increased from seven in 2024 to nine in 2025.

The Council noted that while the absolute number of homicides remains relatively low, the increase still highlights the need for continued attention to violent crime and public safety.

The report also addressed illegal firearms. Authorities confiscated 91 firearms during 2025, slightly lower than the 114 weapons seized in 2024.

According to the Council, violent crimes such as robberies, homicides, domestic violence, and illegal firearm possession continue to have a major impact on public safety and confidence in the rule of law.
