WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao international Armando Obispo will remain with PSV after his proposed transfer to French club RC Lens collapsed at the final stage due to disagreements over personal terms.
According to reports, PSV and RC Lens had reached an agreement on a transfer fee of €5.5 million. However, the 27-year-old defender was unable to finalize a contract with the Ligue 1 side, causing the deal to fall through.
The failed transfer is also a setback for PSV, which had planned to use the proceeds from Obispo's sale, along with expected income from the proposed transfers of Adama Nagalo and Ricardo Pepi, to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season. Those transfers have also reportedly failed to materialize.
Obispo represented Curaçao at the recent FIFA World Cup, further raising his international profile. Born in the Netherlands, he joined PSV's youth academy at an early age and has spent his entire professional career with the Eindhoven club.
The central defender has made 130 first-team appearances for PSV and remains under contract with the Dutch champions following the collapse of the transfer to Lens.
With the move now off the table, Obispo is expected to rejoin PSV as preparations continue for the upcoming season.
