Aqualectra Carries Out Rotating Power Interruptions Due to Major Network Failure

Local, | By Correspondent July 27, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Utility company Aqualectra has been dealing with a major disruption on Curaçao’s electricity network since Tuesday night, forcing the company to temporarily switch off power in several neighborhoods to prevent further overload of the system.

Aqualectra began rotating power interruptions at around 1:00 a.m. as a measure to stabilize the electricity network. The company explained that most affected areas should experience outages of no more than two hours before power is restored.

However, some larger neighborhoods, including Cas Grandi, Langleven, Paradijs and Sta. Maria, may experience longer interruptions due to the size and complexity of restoring the power supply.

Aqualectra reported that electricity has already been restored or is in the process of being restored in several areas, including Piscadera, Blue Bay, St. Michiel, Seru Fortuna, Suffisant, Montaña, Sta. Rosa and Buena Vista.

At the same time, residents in a new group of neighborhoods have been warned to expect temporary power interruptions. These areas include Emmastad, Rio Canario, Toni Kunchi, Mahaai, Girouette and surrounding areas.

The utility company said its teams are working continuously to repair the network and restore a stable electricity supply across the island.

Aqualectra has urged residents for patience while the necessary measures are being taken to protect the electricity system and return normal operations as quickly as possible.
