WILLEMSTAD – Aqualectra will carry out maintenance work on Curaçao’s electricity network at multiple locations between September 25 and October 2, resulting in temporary power outages across dozens of neighborhoods.
The duration of the interruptions will vary by location, with some lasting several hours and others covering much of the working day.
The first scheduled work will take place Friday in Fuik and Mahaai. Electricity in Fuik will be interrupted between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. In Mahaai, outages are scheduled during the same period and will affect parts of Dr. Caprilesweg, Mahaaiweg, Dr. Evertszweg, Schout bij Nacht Doormanweg and surrounding areas.
Work will continue Saturday in Punda. A shorter interruption is scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., while other work in the area, including parts of De Castro Gomez Plein, Hendrikplein and Columbusstraat, could result in outages between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The largest series of planned interruptions is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29. Aqualectra will work in several areas, including Pietermaai, Seru Bonito, Mahuma, Ser’i Fortuna, Ser’i Papaya, Fortuna Ariba and Buena Vista.
Depending on the location, work will begin at either 8:00 or 9:00 a.m. and continue until 1:00 or 3:00 p.m.
On Wednesday, September 30, scheduled work will affect areas including Jan Thiel, Monte Carmelo, Suffisant, De Savaan, Raphael, Klein Piscadera and Klein Hofje.
The maintenance program will continue Thursday, October 1, in Sta. Maria, Paradijs, Jan Sofat, Cas Grandi, Brakkeput Mei Mei and Brakkeput Abou.
On Friday, October 2, work is scheduled in areas including Ronde Klip, West Ronde Klip, Vetter, Nabi Votter and Brievengat.
According to Aqualectra, the temporary interruptions are necessary to carry out maintenance on the electricity network. The utility company said it will attempt to complete the work within the announced timeframes and minimize inconvenience to customers.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to take precautions because electricity may be restored earlier than scheduled. Aqualectra warned that customers should therefore always treat electrical installations as energized during the maintenance period.
