WILLEMSTAD – An American tourist died Tuesday after experiencing difficulties in the water at Playa Piskadó, according to the Curaçao Police Force.

At approximately 12:34 p.m. on October 6, the Police Central Dispatch sent officers from Barber and the Tourist Police (Politur) to the beach following a report of a tourist in distress who was no longer showing signs of life.

Upon arrival, officers found an American man lying on the shore and unresponsive.

Police said the man had been in the water when his partner suddenly noticed that he was floating and no longer responding. People nearby immediately pulled him from the water and began resuscitation efforts while waiting for an ambulance.

Ambulance personnel continued attempts to resuscitate the victim after arriving at the scene, but without success.

A police doctor subsequently pronounced the man dead.

Politur is providing assistance and guidance to the victim’s family, including with arrangements for the repatriation of his body.
