ORANJESTAD – An American Airlines flight was forced to return to Aruba on Thursday shortly after departure, prompting the activation of precautionary emergency procedures at the airport. No injuries were reported.
The incident involved flight AA870, which had departed from Queen Beatrix International Airport bound for Philadelphia. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot reported a problem and decided to return to Aruba as a precaution.

According to local media reports in Aruba, the aircraft first flew over the sea to burn fuel before making a safe landing at the airport.
Airport authorities said via social media that emergency services were placed on standby and that some airport operations were temporarily halted for safety reasons while the situation was being handled. Normal operations at the airport were later resumed.
Flight data from trip.com shows that the flight was ultimately cancelled.
The exact cause of the precautionary return has not yet been officially confirmed. Unverified reports suggest the aircraft may have experienced a problem with its nose landing gear.
