WILLEMSTAD – Caribbean baseball stars Ozzie Albies and Xander Bogaerts played decisive roles in victories for their respective teams in Major League Baseball on Saturday, continuing their strong form after representing the Kingdom team in the recent World Baseball Classic.
Curaçao-born Albies was the standout performer for the Atlanta Braves in their 7-2 victory over the Washington Nationals.
The second baseman delivered four runs batted in and capped off his performance with a home run, playing a central role in Atlanta’s offensive production.
Albies’ performance underlines his importance to the Braves lineup as the team continues its push in the early Major League season.
Meanwhile, Aruba-born Bogaerts also made his mark for the San Diego Padres, hitting his fourth home run of the season in a thrilling 10-8 comeback win over the Colorado Rockies.
The Padres rallied late in the game to erase a deficit, with Bogaerts’ contribution helping to fuel the turnaround.
Both Albies and Bogaerts represented the Kingdom team last month at the World Baseball Classic in Miami, where they once again showcased the strength of Caribbean baseball talent on the international stage.
Their performances in Major League Baseball continue to highlight the growing impact of players from Curaçao and Aruba at the highest level of the sport, reinforcing the region’s reputation as a major producer of elite baseball talent.
