Air Traffic Safety in Caribbean Region Deemed Secure Without Dutch Shareholding

Local, International, | By Correspondent April 15, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Air traffic safety in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands would remain safeguarded even without Dutch government ownership in the Dutch Caribbean Air Navigation Service Provider (DC ANSP), according to an official evaluation.

The report concludes that existing laws and international aviation standards already provide sufficient guarantees for safe air navigation services.

DC ANSP operates under strict ICAO regulations, which are embedded in national legislation across the Kingdom. These frameworks ensure compliance with safety requirements regardless of ownership structure.

The evaluation emphasizes that air traffic control is inherently a public function, but one that is already tightly regulated through legal instruments rather than ownership.

As a result, maintaining a financial stake is not considered necessary to ensure safety, though the government continues to exercise oversight through regulatory bodies.
