WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao’s Director of Agriculture, Gabriel Murray, will remain barred from his office for another month while the government continues an investigation into possible irregularities involving public projects.
Murray has been suspended since May amid an investigation into possible mistakes related to government projects under his responsibility. Among the matters under scrutiny is an agricultural project worth more than ANG 300,000 that reportedly suffered significant delays.
A judge previously ruled that the government had not handled Murray’s suspension entirely correctly from a legal standpoint. Despite those shortcomings, the court determined that Murray should remain away from the workplace to prevent him from potentially interfering with the ongoing investigation.
The measure has now been extended for another month.
The government expects the investigation to be completed within the next 30 days. Its findings could determine what further action, if any, will be taken regarding Murray’s position.
For the time being, Murray will therefore remain away from his office while authorities await the outcome of the investigation.
