WILLEMSTAD – The Data Protection Supervisory Commission for Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba (CBP BES) met with Acting Governor of Curaçao Ruthsella Jansen on Monday, October 5, for discussions on digitalization, privacy and the protection of personal data within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a policy paper prepared by CBP BES following a symposium held on Bonaire in January titled “Borderless Digital Data and Privacy: Kingdom Perspectives on Security, Fundamental Rights and Opportunities.”

In the document, CBP BES outlines its main observations and areas of concern regarding digitalization and data protection, as well as the need to ensure an appropriate level of privacy protection throughout the Kingdom.
CBP BES serves as the independent supervisory authority responsible for overseeing the processing of personal data in the Caribbean Netherlands.
The visit provided an opportunity to reflect on the challenges created by increasingly borderless digital data and the importance of balancing technological developments and security interests with the protection of fundamental rights.
The CBP BES delegation consisted of Chairman Glenn Thodé, Vice Chair Shirley Cecilia, commission member Jolien Kuitert and Director-Secretary Roëlla Pourier.
