WILLEMSTAD – Sports representatives from Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao have officially approved the program for the 2027 Inter-Island Games while discussing plans to expand the regional event to include additional Caribbean islands and countries in the future.
Representatives of Aruba’s sports organization IBISA, Bonaire’s INDEBON, and Curaçao’s FDDK recently met in Kralendijk, Bonaire, to evaluate the 2026 Inter-Island Games and begin preparations for next year’s competition.
During the meetings, delegates reviewed the organization of the 2026 games, assessed the sports program, and identified areas for improvement as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the regional sporting event.
According to the organizers, the evaluation confirmed that the Inter-Island Games continue to achieve their primary objective of promoting friendship, mutual respect, integration, and healthy competition among young athletes from the participating islands.
Beyond sports, the event also serves as a platform for youth development and cultural exchange, allowing athletes from the ABC islands to build relationships and share experiences both on and off the field.
One of the key topics discussed during the meeting was the possibility of expanding participation in future editions of the games. Representatives explored opportunities to invite other islands and countries, including Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Maarten, and Suriname.
Organizers expressed their desire to increase the regional and international impact of the event by creating additional opportunities for sports, cultural, and educational exchanges among young people throughout the Caribbean.
The meeting also resulted in the formal approval of the sports schedule for the 2027 Inter-Island Games, which will once again be hosted across the three ABC islands.
Aruba will host the opening phase of the competition from February 25 to 28, 2027, featuring 3x3 basketball, football, and beach tennis.
Bonaire will host the second phase from March 11 to 14, 2027, with competitions in softball, baseball, dodgeball, and water polo.
Curaçao will host the final phase from April 8 to 11, 2027, featuring athletics, football, and volleyball.
Representatives from the three islands reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and working closely with any countries or territories interested in joining future editions of the games.
The organizers said their shared goal is to deliver a successful event with high sporting and organizational standards while continuing to foster regional unity and youth development throughout the Caribbean.
