WILLEMSTAD – At least 325 young people in Curaçao are currently registered as suffering from mental health conditions, according to Member of Parliament Juniel Carolina, who raised concerns during a recent address.
Carolina made the statement following a visit to Klinika Capriles as part of the institution’s 90th anniversary activities. He noted that the figure only reflects registered cases and does not include unreported or undiagnosed individuals, suggesting the real number may be significantly higher.
The parliamentarian acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry of Health, led by Minister Javier Silvania, for addressing the issue and supporting mental health care on the island. He also praised healthcare workers who provide care to patients dealing with mental illness.
Carolina emphasized the importance of continued attention and investment in mental health services, particularly for young people, as global challenges and local pressures continue to impact well-being across communities.
The remarks were made in the context of World Mental Health Day, highlighting the growing urgency of addressing mental health concerns in Curaçao’s society.
