WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao government has formally granted 2Bays an environmental operating permit for its activities at Bullenbaai, marking what officials describe as an important step in the further development of the industrial area.
The permit, known as a Hindervergunning, was formally signed and presented to 2Bays on Friday, August 21. According to the government, the authorization is intended to facilitate development at Bullenbaai while ensuring that economic progress and environmental protection go hand in hand.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the government, environmental authorities and Curaçao Refinery Utilities (CRU).
Pedzi Girigori, head of the Environmental and Nature Executive Organization, addressed those present during the ceremony, along with CRU General Manager David de Haseth and Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas.
Pisas, who has responsibility for Curaçao's energy chain, emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for economic development within a regulatory framework that safeguards the interests of Curaçao, its population and the environment.
The granting of the permit comes as Bullenbaai continues to play an increasingly important role in government plans for the future of Curaçao's energy and industrial infrastructure.
According to the government, the development of the area must take place responsibly, with environmental considerations forming an integral part of future activities rather than being treated separately from economic development.
