WILLEMSTAD – A group of 28 candidates has officially begun Initial Military Training (EMV) in Curaçao, starting a six-month program that could eventually lead them to operational units of the Aruba or Curaçao militias.
Following several introductory weeks, the candidates have now entered their first field exercise. They are spending a challenging bivouac week at the mining company site in Fuik, where they are putting the knowledge and skills acquired during the introductory phase into practice.
The exercise includes training in basic military skills and the safe handling of weapons. The program is designed to prepare the candidates physically and mentally for the demands of military service.
The 28 participants were selected through a rigorous selection process conducted earlier this year. Those considered most suitable were admitted to the Initial Military Training program.
Their training began at the Marine Barracks Suffisant in Curaçao. During the introductory weeks, instructors focused on team building, order and discipline, as well as developing fundamental military skills.
The current exercise at Fuik represents the next stage of the program, requiring candidates to apply what they have learned under more demanding field conditions.
The complete EMV program lasts six months. Candidates who successfully complete the training will be prepared to continue their military careers with operational units of the Curaçao Militia (CURMIL) or Aruba Militia (ARUMIL).
The training is intended to provide new Caribbean military personnel with a common foundation before they move into their respective operational assignments.
