Tourism recovery continues to drive Curaçao’s economic growth

| By Correspondent March 13, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The recovery of the tourism sector remains one of the main drivers of Curaçao’s economic growth, according to a recent analysis by S&P Global Ratings.

The international rating agency noted that tourism activity has strengthened significantly in recent years, helping to support government revenue and overall economic expansion.

Visitor arrivals have rebounded strongly after the sharp decline during the COVID-19 pandemic. The return of international travelers has benefited hotels, restaurants, transportation services and other tourism-related industries across the island.

Tourism plays a central role in Curaçao’s economy and remains one of the country’s most important sources of employment and foreign income.

The renewed growth of the sector has also contributed to improved fiscal performance, as higher economic activity translates into increased tax revenue for the government.

However, analysts warn that Curaçao’s reliance on tourism also creates vulnerabilities. Global economic slowdowns, geopolitical tensions or disruptions in international travel could quickly affect the island’s economic performance.

For that reason, experts continue to emphasize the importance of economic diversification to reduce dependence on a single sector.
