Suriname postpones visa abolition

PARAMARIBO - Travelers to Suriname must still be in possession of a visa after 1 May. The Surinamese government has decided that the new arrangement, in which tourists only have to pay an entry fee, will be postponed.

According to the government, the country is not yet ready for the new system. It is not yet known when the country will be able to receive visa-free travelers, this will be announced shortly. Until then, all current regulations will remain in effect.

Travelers from more than twenty countries, including the Netherlands and Curaçao, must currently be in possession of a visa to enter Suriname. To stimulate tourism in Suriname, it was recently decided that travelers will soon have to pay an 'entrance fee' of one hundred guilders instead of a visa.

The entrance fee must be paid online through VFS Global. Travelers receive proof of payment via the mail that is necessary to enter Suriname.
