WILLEMSTAD - It took a while, but it was worth the wait. On Sunday, the streets of Curaçao were filled with people in colorful costumes as usual. The public could enjoy the music, the participants, and the atmosphere of the carnival on Curacao along the side of the road. In other words, the Gran Marcha is back.  

The parade got underway around 12:30 p.m., although there was a false start. Soon after the start, the procession immediately stopped for a while. About eight hours later, at 9 p.m., the last group arrived at Brionplein.  

On Monday it will be the children's turn to walk the streets again, during the farewell parade. Carnival 2023 will come to an end with the adults' parade on Tuesday, the Marcha di Despedida. King Momo is burned in the traditional way at midnight. The idea behind this is that all elements are nullified so that on Wednesday one can start the fasting period with a clean slate.
