Rising fuel costs may push up KLM ticket prices, including flights to Curaçao

| By Correspondent March 12, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Airline tickets with KLM could become more expensive in the near future as the price of aviation fuel has risen sharply in recent weeks.

According to reports cited by ANP, the price of kerosene—the fuel used by aircraft—has increased by more than 70 percent in about a month. The surge is linked to ongoing conflict involving Iran and other countries in the Middle East, which has disrupted the transport of oil and fuel from the region. A significant portion of aviation fuel used worldwide originates from that area.

KLM indicated that such large cost increases are difficult for airlines to absorb entirely. As a result, the carrier is considering passing part of the additional expenses on to passengers through higher ticket prices.

It is not yet clear how much ticket prices could increase. It is also unknown whether the potential price hikes will directly affect flights to and from Curaçao.

Other airlines are already taking similar measures. Scandinavian carrier SAS has announced that it will temporarily increase ticket prices in response to higher fuel costs.

At the same time, some European airlines are exploring additional flights to destinations in Asia and Africa. Due to operational challenges faced by certain Middle Eastern airlines, travelers are increasingly looking for alternative routes and carriers.
