Renovation of TUI Dutch Caribbean reaches highest point

WILLEMSTAD - The renovation of TUI's office building on Schottegatweg has reached its highest point. This milestone was traditionally celebrated with a beer for the construction workers, known as "spantenbier."

TUI's office building is being expanded with an additional floor. The construction began in November last year and is expected to take a year. The new second floor will provide extra workspaces and a multifunctional training room.

Antoin Klein Hofmeijer, Head of TUI Dutch Caribbean, commented: “TUI Curaçao currently employs about 155 people, making us a significant employer on the island. It is important for us to offer all these and new colleagues a pleasant and sustainable work environment, both now and in the future. The construction of this additional floor provides TUI with that opportunity.”

Sustainability

The expansion is being carried out by Real Estate Developer DREM of the Van Alstede family, who also built the office building in 2021. As before, a lot of attention is being paid to sustainability in the realization of the additional floor. This includes the use of sustainable materials, 168 solar panels on the roof, and excellent building insulation.

In line with TUI's sustainability ambitions, there was also discussion about the charging station project that TUI started in collaboration with Dynaf at the end of 2022. This project involves the installation of a network of 55 charging stations for electric vehicles on the ABC islands.

Thirty of these charging stations will be located on Curaçao, ten of which have already been installed. TUI believes it is important that these charging stations are available for use by both tourists and the local population, and therefore focuses on easily accessible locations such as in Punda, Westpunt, and Boca Sami.
