Jetair flight from Curaçao to Sint Maarten canceled due to flu

WILLEMSTAD - The 10:00 flight with the number 4J 0522 from Jet Air did not depart for Sint Maarten yesterday. The reason: one or more crew members had the flu. After checking in, travelers were initially told that there was a one-hour delay, but it soon became clear that the flight was not departing at all.

The announcement at Hato from Swissport staff was that the pilot had the flu, but Jetair later reported that it was a purser.

Passengers had to wait for hours to retrieve their luggage and were upset due to the lack of communication from Jetair. One of the passengers was informed in the late afternoon that the flight might be possible today.

Because the airline operates on a tight flight schedule with only one plane serving both Sint Maarten, Bonaire, and Aruba, it is not clear whether an extra flight will be operated or if passengers will be placed on existing flights with empty seats.

Yesterday evening, some passengers had still not heard anything from Jet Air. The airline turns off the phone after 5:00 PM, and there was no up-to-date information on the Jetair website; the status of the canceled flight was still displayed as 'on time.'
