WILLEMSTAD - The tourism industry in Curaçao has successfully rebounded, surpassing pre-pandemic levels, as indicated by the latest data released by the Minister of Economic Development, Ruisandro Cijntje (PNP), and the Curaçao Tourist Board.
During the first quarter of 2023, the island welcomed 35,000 visitors, generating a significant revenue of 700 million guilders. Projections for the remainder of the year anticipate that Curaçao will attract over half a million visitors.
A noteworthy trend has emerged, with fewer Dutch tourists visiting the island while American visitors have shown a growing interest. Cijntje highlights that American tourists tend to spend more money, thus making a substantial contribution to the local economy.
Cijntje emphasizes that tourism plays a pivotal role in Curaçao's overall economy, accounting for 11 percent of the country's gross domestic product.
