Andruw Jones Named Curaçao’s First Sport Tourism Ambassador

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao has officially named baseball legend Andruw Jones as the island’s first Sport Tourism Ambassador.

The announcement was made on March 8, 2026, following the global recognition of Jones’ induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. The appointment was initiated by Roderick Middelhof and aims to highlight Jones’ contribution to placing Curaçao on the international map.

Jones, who built a remarkable career in Major League Baseball, is widely regarded as a symbol of excellence, dedication and perseverance. As the first Curaçao-born player to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, his journey continues to inspire young athletes and aspiring professionals both on the island and abroad.

According to the government, the initiative is intended to strengthen the connection between sports, tourism and international promotion. In his new role, Jones will represent Curaçao as an inspirational figure and international ambassador of the island’s talent and culture.

During a ceremony held in Brickell, Miami, Middelhof and representatives of the Curaçao Tourist Board signed the official declaration appointing Jones as Curaçao’s Sport Tourism Ambassador. The document formally recognizes his role in promoting the island on the international stage through sports and tourism.

A celebratory reception followed the ceremony to mark the occasion and recognize Jones’ achievements.

The Government of Curaçao and the Curaçao Tourist Board congratulated Jones and praised his continued contribution to inspiring others and representing the island globally.

Among those present at the event were Gerlien Croes, Curaçao Tourist Board director Muryad de Bruin, as well as members of the media from Curaçao, Aruba and Bonaire.
