WILLEMSTAD - The news that American Airlines will no longer be the only airline flying between Miami and Curaçao is likely to be welcomed by travelers. According to sources close to the tourism sector, Southwest Airlines, Spirit, and Delta Airlines are set to become competitors of the largest American airline on this route.
The talks between the Curaçao Tourist Board and airlines in the United States have been very positive, indicating that this move will be beneficial for all travelers who want to visit Miami. Furthermore, Surinam Airways has also recently expressed interest in routing its flights from Curaçao through Miami.
Southwest Airlines is expected to start flights from December of this year. It is not yet clear when, but the aviation companies Spirit and Delta Airlines will also follow suit. However, this move is sure to increase competition on this popular route, and hopefully, lead to lower prices and better service for travelers.
Minister of Economic Development Ruisandro Cijntje, who oversees the tourism industry in Curaçao, has not provided any details about the ongoing talks between CTB and the airlines. Nonetheless, the prospect of increased competition on this route is a promising development that could benefit both tourists and the local economy.
